What happened before…

We met each other through a famous Dutch family theme park called Efteling, where we both worked with great pleasure. Elsbeth worked for the Marketing and Sales department and Mike for the Events department.

ELSBETH decided that it was time for something new and got the opportunity to set up the project unit for retail chain Leen Bakker. She chose a personal approach and offered fully equipped concepts for holiday homes, hospitality, healthcare and government. What proved to be a succes is that customers were particularly pleased to be completely taken care of. Leen Bakker Business has become a renowned project founder within a few years time. An impression of some of these projects can be found under projects – previous projects. Read more…

MIKE was given the opportunity to start a company in concept development in hospitality. Conceptual thinking within the development of a project, from the idea up to realization. To fill in a concept and add the appropriate quality and customer experience is where his added value lies. For example, he has developed an online fresh food market and an online flower market, an imaginary world built for the food hall in the former Philips factories in Eindhoven, and conceived the slogan ‘Connecting Cultures’ for the World of Food in Amsterdam. In addition, he has developed and refined hospitality concepts for various clients in terms of guest experience and optimization of money, time and space.

What’s next…

For years, we have been thinking about a company of us together, and preferably abroad. We saw future and challenge in our cooperation. We wanted to bundle our experiences and strengths and broaden and deepen our expertise. We travelled to so many countries and places together but we couldn’t seem to find the right spot to settle down. The last time we visited Bonaire we both had the right feeling about this island in the Caribbean and saw a great business opportunity. Back in Holland we decided to separately visit Bonaire to investigate this business opportunity without that holiday feeling and also to discover for ourselves if we wanted to make the move to the Caribbean. We decided to go for it, so we packed our stuff and moved with our kids, dog and cat to Bonaire in july 2017. With lots of passion, creativity and fun we started Luckybird.

Why Lucky bird…

We feel we are lucky birds because we have the opportunity to make a choice like this and actually move to this beautiful island in the Caribbean and above that to do what we love. Sometimes you have to enforce your luck and have faith in your own strength.
